The Building Commission was replaced by the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) on 1 July 2013 as the statutory agency responsible for consumer protection and regulating the building and plumbing industries within Victoria.

The VBA now has a number of strategies to correct the findings in the VAGO report and one of those issues impacting on compliance in the building certification system has been the use of ‘Alternative Solutions’ in the building permit process.
